Ask your students to visit the blogs of the global warming learning community. View at least five Take 2 videos from five countries. After viewing, generate a list of how Global Warming is affecting people. Post a blog entry reflecting on the similarities and differences of how students from other countries experience Global Warming.
Return to the experts. The students will listen to the four experts describe the impact of Global Warming on different communities and/or sectors of society. Post a blog entry on one of the four experts based on their interest. In the entry, describe their viewpoint of how a community is experiencing Global Warming.
Let each student choose an area of interest and research it in depth. Study the articles and websites within the selected area. Students are required to visit each of the links and articles provided. Students will be encouraged to conduct further independent research on their area of interest. Instruct the students on how to collect research and to critically evaluate the information gained in your classroom.
Based on their area of interest, students will design interview questions for members of their local community. Teachers will evaluate interview questions for appropriateness and relevance based on their area of interest.
Ask your students to go into their local community and conduct interviews with citizens who reflect the students’ strand of interest. Conduct a whole class discussion explicitly defining the four strands with which to view the impact of Global Warming. Four strand-based blogs will be created for all members of the Global Warming Learning Community to post onto. Post the results of their community interview according to which strand they believe it best fits.
